Here's my Portrait Project. The images shown were taken at a variety of locations, ranging from Mt Hood National Forest to Powell Butte to Woodstock Park.
Artist's Statement:
For this project, I wanted to convey via images, my brother Toby's appearance and personality. He is a relatively shy, reserved and serious guy, but there is a thoughtfulness and maturity he possesses that is far beyond his years. I wanted to depict this poise and quietness in ways that show his observant and caring nature. Toby would never hurt anyone, and has a huge heart. He loves wearing sweaters and listening to Irish folk music. He loves collecting cool rocks to show his friends. Plus of course he loves his family unconditionally, especially the puppy.
Interview Takeaways:
From the interview portion, I learned that Toby has been observing a family of 6 crows that live in a tree on our property, so I photographed him looking up and watching the nest. He loves going up to our cabin and sitting by the wood stove with a warm cup of tea, so I photographed that too. I learned that he still plays in the old tree fort we made together 3 summers ago, so I photographed him there, and promised a new renovation to the fort this spring. Lastly, I learned his favorite thing to do is take walks, and he wishes his friends would spend more time outside in nature. I took a couple of shoots to represent that as well.

This one is my personal favorite, I like both the composition and the lighting.
